If I buy a second hand computer with windows XP operating system (for example) am I OK to re register it in my name.
Getting a second hand divice seems to me to offer good storage space quite cheap and also great scope for swopping household things about...
Any advice or experience please?

I would'nt re-register it if I where you. The point of Microsoft starting the activation process was to stop people copying software. I know you would get it on a second hand PC. But Microsoft do'nt know that, and could think that you have copied it. I suppose this would also invalidate any sort of support for it too.

If you get the computer you should get the XP disc and any software discs that are loaded on the computer. To be legal

The disk is not 'registered' in your name. It is activated by Microsoft for the computer that it was/is originally installed on.
