I know this may sound a little odd but is there any program that will tell you your computers screen size in inches.

I am running xp pro sp2

it is measured diagonally as are domestic tv receivers.

On LCD monitors, what you measure will be the quoted size.

On a CRT the measured size will be an inch or so less than the quoted size. That's because the quoted size is actually the nominal tube size, and you don't see all the tube.

Why diagonally - because originally all CRTs were round - and its the diameter of the tube. In the earlt TV days they put a rectangular frame in front of the round tube - so the diameter became the diagonal measuement, and it's stuck like that ever since.

Interestingly, they still normally quote CRT tube sizes in Spain (and probably other European countries too) in inches (pulgadas), not metric.

i think these days the quote is 'viewing area'
