screen saver system freeze

  siphax 14:38 08 Feb 2004

Help! I have a 933Mhz PIII system running W2000 professional and all appears to be

working well apart from the screen saver. when the screen saver 'kicks in' over a

period of say 45mins to one hour it gradually slows to a stop, freezes and the

whole system 'locks up', and even control, alt, del will not allow me to access the

system and my only option is to hit the 'reset' button on the tower unit! The only

other symptom is when I have selected the scrolling marquee ss the text scrolls

across the screen in a very 'jerky' fasion and it flashes light to dark

intermittently. The freezing effect occurs whatever ss option is selected. I

would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Make sure the screen resolution (in screen saver settings) is set to automatic.

Hello again and thanks for the helpful suggestions, please forgive the delay in getting back but I've been away for a few days... Well, both of the above are in place and I thought the problem might be the graphics card so I installed the latest drivers... but the problem persists :-( the card is a Vivid XS 5.l...
