Screen Saver Doesn't Work...?

  Whaty 12:53 01 Apr 2006

I've just realised that the screen saver isn't working on my two week old Acer Laptop, I 'think' I've checked all the obvious things?

Can honestly say I've never come accross this problem before.

The computer is running XP Home..

Your help would be much appreciated, any ideas?

What screensaver is it? a windows default one or one you have added yourself?

If it's XP default,go to Start/Run/type sfc /scannow hit enter (Watch the space between sfc and /) you will need your XP CD.

Right click on an empty section of the Desktop>Properties>ScreenSaver tab.

You may have altered the time out to be longer than you require.

Sorry I've not replied sooner...

It is a default screen saver. I've even tried a few of them.... just in case?

The timeout is set to three minutes..

Please can you tell me what your suggestion will do.

Rawprawn & VoG:

I ran sfc /scannow and once complete, the progress box simply disappeared, I assume that means there was nothing to fix, or, that it fixed it all by itself..?

Unfortunately, I still have the problem with the screen saver not working, any more ideas?

I know it isn't the end of the world but it's not right, and I would like to fix it..

The only other possibility as far as I can work out (as it's a new machine) is that Power Saving options (ACPI) haven't been set in the Bios or set incorrectly.

I may have found the answer? There is an MS Knowledge Base article which describes the fault I am having.

It would seem that the intellipoint software loaded with a MS wireless optical mouse (which just happens to be what I'm using...) can cause a problem on XP with SP2. The article suggests to disable DVD Launcher (apparently this verifies that the inserted DVD matches the DVD region selected for your DVD player), the article does not say what the consequences of disabling this are?

I might try this tomorrow if I get some time to 'play', I'll let you know how I get on.
