Screen reading software on Vista

A friend of mine who is blind has purchased a new laptop on which I have installed Vista Home Premium for him.
I have downloaded and installed a screen reading software called Thunder. The idea is that when the computer is started, Thunder automatically opens thus enabling the user to "hear" the desktop.
This works perfectly well on my XP pc, but does not open at startup on the Vista laptop.
I was wondering whether anyone has encountered a similar problem, or has any idea how to get Thunder to function as it should.

Are we stumped?
