My sons Dell laptop's screen changed to dark blue yesterday, he rebooted and it was ok for about one and half hours then it went completely green. Today he had it on for about 45 minutes and it went completely purple. Can anyone help please.

It could be magnetic interference but it is more likely:

1. A corrupt videocard driver
2. An un-seated videocard cable

My screen use to go pink and green but that was on an old crt monitor not a laptop. The problem there was a bad VGA pin connection

I would try

1. Re-installing the videocard driver
2. Link the laptop to an external monitor (if poss)
to count out a problem with the laptop screen display
3. If all else fails, check the videocard cable is seated on the motherboard - depending on your level of confidence in opening up the laptop...if in doubt take it to an engineer...it is easy to wreck a laptop once you have opened it

Where will I find the videodriver to reinstall?

If you use a settings profiler such as belarac advisor you should be able to get the name and version of your video card

You can then go the respective manufacturers website i.e. nvidia etc and download the driver again
