Scanning slides

Anyone know if I can get software that will scan slides on an"ordinary" Umax scanner? There is no option on the driver software for slides, but I don't really want to buy a new scanner for just a few old slides?
TIA

It's not the software you need it's a backlight to illuminate the slide and the ability to scan at at least 2400 dpi. So it's down to hrad ware at the end of the day.

I tried the backlighter shown in your link, many months ago with my old hp scanner and the results were desasterous in the end I bought an epson 3200 scanner and the results are excellent.

SANTOS7. I tried that and it doesn't work. The results were awful. I eventually tried Jessops and bought a dedicated film scanner, Primefilm 1800U for £99.90, mainly because I have hundreds of slides/negatives to scan. Alternatively, if you only have a few slides then most photographic shops (Jessops included) now have facilities for putting slides/negatives on to CD for you very cheaply.
