Scanner Obsolete udner Vista?

  romaneagle 22:04 21 Jun 2008

I hope someone can help with this problem.

Having just up-graded to a new computer which runs under M/S Vista, I am disappointed to learn that my Visioneer 9020 (bought 9 months ago, I find that there is no Driver for Vista provided by the manuafacturer. In fact, on their website, it states against the model entry "At End of Life". I take it that that means that no suitable driver will be provided to use it with Vista. Apart from the obvious i.e. replacement, has anyone, please got any ideas for a solution to overcome this obsolesence?
When I try to install it, it is listed as a "Xerox Scan Pro".

Just thought it was worth asking.

Many thanks for assistance.

Looks like it's obsolete for Vista.

You could always go back to XP, it's a shame you are forced into ditching a perfectly good scanner, what a waste, I would ditch Vista instead.

As it's a new PC I'd sell the scanner on ebay and buy a new one.

Thats the best about buying Epson, you get support

Many manufacturers rebadge products from specialist manufacturers under their own name.

Unfortunately because of the age of the scanner, it seems Visioneer never undertook to provide Vista drivers; it's not unusual for a wide range of products by various manufacturers.

You just might find Xerox provided a driver. See, for instance:

In the loft, on a table, is an old W98'se IBM Aptiva, and an Agfa 1212s (for SCSI). It failed to make the jump to XP, let alone Vista, but still scans very quickly and accurately.

I'm surprised at that - I have the Agfa 1212u which gained an XP driver (Scanwise just before Agfa packed in producing scanners, but the 1212p missed out.

Would have thought that the 1212s would have also been worthy of an XP driver.

Have a look at a program called Vuescan, it claims that it will enable a large number of scannens to work under Vista.
It lists the scanners it claims will work.
I found my scanner listed, which is a SCSI scanner obsolete after W2k listed; even though Vista did not provide a driver for my SCSI card. Can't say how good it is as I decided to stay with XP; but they do a trial period, so there is nothing to lose.

I needed drivers for the Card as well. The cost of a new Card was around £40 it I remember rightly.

Anyway it still works well and I only really pop up to the loft, now and again. Usually when I'm arguing with the Council about something or other.
