ScanDisk will not scan

  Oggly 14:26 21 Jun 2003

PC is a PIII 256Mb RAM 30GbHD 19.5 used, Windows ME. I try to run scandisk it has 10 attempts & then says that another program is trying is interrupting and to close all programs. Using Ctrl+Alt+Del I close everything down except Explorer, I get the same problem. Meanwhile my PC is getting slower & I don't think I should Defrag before checking the disk. Anyone any bright ideas, please.

Restart your computer in SAFE MODE. Keep tapping F8 or F5 or the right Ctrl key when the computer starts and choose safe mode.

It could be that your hard drive is not configured correctly - this will initiate a ScanDisk can't work message.

Same thing happened to me some time ago, it was a virus that was writing to disk and stopping scandisk, it was also robbing my ram by devious means and slowing the computer down.

Regards G.

Same thing also happened to me. Turned out to be faulty HDD.
