On my other PC that runs windows 98plus, the scandisk utility seems unable to complete the through test and fix any problems. The reason why i ask is because i had installed power defrag lite on the system because the existing defrag programme took so long to complete and each time i tried to run it a message pops up RUN TIME ERROR'71'. I thought if i done a through Scan of the disk it would fix the error and allow power defrag to run. I hope the problems are connected.

You should always defrag in safe mode, any other defrag software is no better than Windows defrag software and yes it does take time depending on how fragmented your hard drive is,i don't think this is a problem in your case but if the jumper is set incorrectly you won't be able to defrag.
