saving windows to a cd

I am new to this game so please forgive me me if i ask a daft question.
I keep my windows xp right upto date. So how can i save it to a cd so that i do not have to download it all again if it fails or so i can use it for running the sfc if i have a problem.
I have a cd burner with nero and have ghost

click here for a good guide to Ghost; create a spanned image, test it and use it as a backup.

Do you have a second hdd? That is also useful for storing ghost images.

You have the answer right there with Norton Ghost. This will take an image of the entire contents of your hard drive and can be transferred for safe keeping to CD. Depending on the size of your drive and contents you will certainly need more than one cd for storage.

The ideal situation is a second hard drive where you can store the backup, takes less time and saves a lot of CD's.
