Does anyone know what format to save a Microsoft Excel 98 File in so it can be used with Excel 2000?

You just save itas normal, when 2000 opens the file it will convert it and then save it as the new format. You will see no difference. Stil an xls file.

After Excel 95/5 you only need to save as .xls, later versions are fully backwards compatible

Chewie100, versions of Excel should be backwards compatible, i.e. Excel 2000 should be able to read Excel 98 files, but Excel 98 may have problems with Excel 2000 files.

I did save it as normal, but I sent the file as an attachment to myself and couldn't open the file on my home pc (with excel 2000)

What happened when you tried to open it - error message or what?

By the way, what is "Excel 98" click here

i have the same setup at home office 2000 and at work office 97. I can open and use any file sent by e-mail or on disc.

Right click the file and look at properties and see if someone has not set it to "read only" or locked the file then change it to archive and close it.

Otherwise if you need files in the meantime save them as CSV format and then open them in excel
