Saved Disc Data

I saved data onto CD before i upgraded to windows xp prof. When i insert cd and try and look at data on it i am getting message WINDOWS CANNOT OPEN THIS FILE. FILE IS Inbox.dbx
To open this file windows needs to know what program created it. Can anyone help how to open this program

Hi Jake, if outlook express created the files can you not import them back into your inbox and read them from there.

Not sure what you mean. I copied them to disc from outlook express when i had windows 98 installed so can i do that now that i have windows xp installed and if i can could you explain how i do it.

If you created a database of your address book and messages, you should be able to get this back by importing from your CD file. In Outlook Express, using the <File> drop down menu, select <Import> and select the appropriate file from your CD.

The only reason that might have occurred is if the data file were corrupt. I'm afraid this means you could have lost it all. I prefer to use specialist software to do this for me click here. Might help in future, but not much more I can offer now.

Try copying from the CD to a new folder on your hard drive and then try the Import tool in OE.

An alternative to try would be to copy the dbx file from your CD into the folder that OE is using now. You can find this by right clicking on your Inbox, left clicking on Properties and copying the address into Notepad.
