How to save a file with a password?

All depends on the type of file; easiest way is to turn it into a zip archive and add a password.

I use the free Cryptainer LE click here & TrueCrypt (Win2K/XP+) click here.

Word/Excel/similar MS Office files have their own inbuilt password protection. G

PGP will do this admirably, but it is a tad costly, however, it is one of the most secure encrypters on the market. All depends on how secure you want the file to be.
