Can a SATA II drive be fitted in a computer with SATA I connections??

Yes, but it will only perform as a SATA I drive.

I've been searching the web and there is a lot of confusion about what it means.
I should be asking about SATA150 and SATA300.
Some are saying that jumpers are on the drives others that a software download is necessary. It's all very confusing.
Further more SATA150 drives seem to be more expensive than SATA300????
