I have at last installed my new SATA 500Gb HD, to my system which runs two IDE HD's as primary and slave with On O/S on each. Although the sata drive shows up in my computer with the partitions One primary and two logical. it does not show in the Bios at all and there is no ref to SATA there at all.
The M/B is an ASUS A7N8X delux.
the primary O/S is XP home. Eventually I hope to get the New sata drive running with Win 7 and have it with Xp as a dual boot. I think I'm missing something here.

for SATA for this motherboard. It works from " boot from other devices"

The drive shows in my computer and disk management? So you can format it and load windows 7 from XP. Just pop in the disk and pick new installation and point it to the SATA disk. It'll reboot and load 7 wit a boot loader.

You have loaded the Silicon Image Serial ATA utility from the motherboard utilty disk?

Unplug the IDE drives cable and see if the SATA drive will show up

If SATA drive is still not being seen you need to check that the SATA connections is correct

Once the SATA drive is available load Windows 7 on the drive

Do Not Plug In IDE Cable Until 7 Is Installed And Running on the SATA Drive

Once 7 is installed reconnect the IDE cable, all drive should now be seen in my computer
