Hello all,

The problem i have is my external hard drive has given up and i was wondering if there is any way of getting it working again.

When i plug it into the computer it spins up okay but it just starts clicking loudly.
I have opened it up and the clicking is coming from the arm that reads the discs, it is in the middle of the disc and then just shoots to the outside edge of the disc and back again (this is the clicking)
Do any of you gurus know how to sort this please as i have just come back from a trip away where i took alot of video footage and stored it on the drive.
Western Digital external serial ata 500gb hard drive

Thanks in advance

Just opening the drive casing will have ensured that it is wrecked, regardless of whether it was wrecked before that or not.

Hard drives must be opened in clean room conditions as even the tiniest particles of dust or dirt will ensure that the drive is dead.

Even before you did that, though, clicking usually means the drive is defunct.
