I have just installed a SATA DVD RW drive on an ASUS A8V mobo running win xp. The problem is that although the drive powers up it is not recognised by Windows
Have you got SATA drivers loaded?
the only drivers I can find are SATA raid drivers for HDD's, these have been loaded but to no avail.
right click my computer - manage - storage - disk management. Can you see the drive? highlight right click - initialise and format.
have been there already, this adds to the mystery as the new drive is not there,,,,,I will try a different mobo connxn.
CAn you see it in BIOS?
no only the ata optical and hdd's
Are your SATA connections type 1 ( 150 ) or 2 ( 300 ) if SATA11
As I was saying ! The SATA drivers are not for the hard drives but for the controller , it doesn't matter what is connected . Have a look in the bios to make sure all SATA ports are enabled . Ashley
