SATA drive on an IDE mobo

  Taurus 13:23 18 Feb 2012

Hi everyone, I have a SATA DVD drive that I want to install on an old machine with an IDE motherboard. I have bought a suitable converter but I find that, in common with all the converters available it seems, it doesn't have the means to convey power to the drive. Two cables are supplied, one is the SATA data transfer cable, the other powers the converter itself. None of them supply a SATA power cable and the drive doesn't power up when everything supplied is connected. Am I missing something or do I need a separate power cable? Any advice will be gratefully received.

Many thanks

If your PSU doesn't have a SATA power connector you will need some thing like this from Maplin. Also try a company called Usbnow

Thanks Guys, It seems a bit strange that an essential cable is not included, but never mind, sorted now. Cheers!
