Samsung Galaxy Tablet - strange icons.

I bought my wife this tablet some months ago. When I went to use it last night, I noticed a row of icons along the top of the screen. These are very small and mainly black and white. There are 20 that say BBC NEWS, 6 that look like suitcases with a tick, six that look like download arrows, a couple of facebook and one skype.

Tapping them does nothing. I'm sure the answer will be simple, but what are they and how do I get rid?!

I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1. You will get icons similar to those you describe but they appear on the BOTTOM of my Tab and could be download notifications?

Answer

Can you not swipe the sreen down from where the icons are. That should give you the option to clear them. There then maybe 3 or 4 bars at the top. Touching them should clear the notifications. Alternatively there may be an option to 'Clear' which I have on my S3.
