Safley remove hardware problem

  mammak 19:45 20 Aug 2007

I have just been copying some pics of my MKCOM 2GB flash drive and now Windows is throwing this messege at me "The device 'Generic Volume'cannot be removed right now please try again later"

I have a load of photos and videos on it and dont want to risk corrupting the data by just pulling it out any ideas please ?

Though it should be quite safe Ma,can you save the files first in case of corruption.

As the drive should be PNP = plug and play,it should be safe to remove.

Are you sure the transfer completed ?

I have read recently the Safely Remove Hardware is not actually recommended.
I must admit, with a total of seven machines...i never use the safely remove Hardware procedure, and to problems that i know about.

sounds like it is still in use so maybe you could 'try again later'

is anything showing in Task Manager?
if so you could try 'end Task' but if it was me I would just wait until Windows has finished with it.

Well its sorted now I think the problem was just for future incase anyone comes up with the same problem!

I had accessed the flash drive and had selected a photo and set it as desktop background rather than copying it as I stated in my first post so in effect the drive was still in use.
