Safely remove hardware problem and Media Player.

This is on Vista HP,
If I have either a USB flash drive or an SD card in the slot and open media player (but not even use it) the cursor begins to flash quickly with the "hourglass" symbol at the side also flashing quickly. Everything still continuses to work normally, however if I click "safely remove hardware" a message says that the device is currently in use. Close media player and no problem, cursor normal and OK to remove.
Any thought as to why.

Media Player looks for and monitors all drives for media to play. They are therefore seen to be "In Use". (Sounds plausible?)

(Sounds plausible?)
I guess it does.
Wonder if anyone else has noticed this.

Taff was spot on on this.
Actually I notice if I keep the card in the flashing cursor stops after a couple of minutes and the safely remove hardware thing allows for safe removal. Learn something new every day !
