Recently the "Safely remove Hardware" icon has appeared in the taskbar (on the bottom right)near the clock. Is there any reason for this and can I get rid of it?

Cheers

Yeh, wish you could send it to me. I've just issued a cry for help with this icon shutting down my card readers and then disappearing!!

It's a legacy from installing SP2 I believe.

Right click on Taskbar- Properties - Choose Customise from Notification area - find the icon and choose Always Hide or Hide when Inactive. That should clear it up.

Nothing to do with SP2.

It's as a result of having installed hardware. Right click on it to see which hardware it refers to.

Leave it alone. It won't cause any problems and will, as its name suggests, allows you to safely remove the hardware if you need to.

This is to allow the the safe removal of external drives -HDD and card readers etc.,
As intimated leave it where it is, you may need it one day when you get the Terabyte external HDD you promised yourself, or a card reader for the camera
you will be given for your birthday.
