Presumably you load Linux from the Linux site.

Sites don't choose the O/S boot order - you do

Take a look here

Youll get all info needed to dual-boot or simply try the Live CD option.

get a linux live cd click here

You can either download or get one set to you from there. However I think you dont fully understand linux as a concept. It is a complete operating system so from the XP logo when you start the PC to the interface you use it is all the operating system.

However if you mean to have both available side by side a boot loader is included. This is a piece of software to allow you to choose what one to load up.

UBUNTU seems to be the most user frienly the first link is an introduction the second will give you info on setting up a dual boot config.

Go for the 32-bit version. Java etc aint quite ready for the 64-bit linux.

Creature of the night

I do understand that I boot in one or the other other but need guidance as to how this is achieved
Up until now have used 3.1 , 95 ,98 ,, and xp but never together. And its the "dual booting" that fazes me

No worries mate. Simply install linux and it will sort out the dual boot options so long as you tell it when you install it when asked that you want to keep both OS's. It will then load a bootloader so you can select them. In many cases a version of the grub loader (a specific type of bootloader).

It really is that easy.
