running problems in xp pro

help, I am having some running problems in xp pro, sometimes all is well. The other times programmes freeze, applications won't shut down properly, and programmes don't respond at all.
The computer is sometimes very slow indeed, taking sometime to load apllications. This is most noticable on shut down, when several appliactions have to be shut down manually.

My computer is a new laptop, with full up to date virus protection.

I have de-fragged the hard drive, checked the hard disk for errors, and even re-installed windows in an effort to sort things out.

All to no avail, please help.

As your machine is new, it would be best to get your supplier to fix it.

Could we have more details of your machine, CPU, memory etc. I am also a little puzzled about your statement re closing applications manually. Are you going to closedown with a mass of running applications?
