rundll32.exe help please

  Ridleyrider 08:49 19 Feb 2004

I'm having problems with my PC. IE is hanging and software doesn't work.

When I reboot I get rundll32.exe errors.

I understand that this is a fundemental part of Windows that is not behaving correctly. It may also be a virus (I am scanning my PC for viruses using my Norton antivirus). I don't think it is a virus though as I had Norton running & it's up to date.

I may have deleted the rundll32.exe file by mistake. Is there any way I can getthis back if I have?

Is there any way of searching my PC to find the file?

Any other help greatly appreciated as the last thing I want to do is backup my PC & reinstall Windows.

Probely your file is corrupt or deleted. You could try loading in Safe mode to see if its in your Recycle bin. Once there, you could also run SFC or restore an earlier version depending on your OS. You could also try reinstalling Windows over-the-top.

Boot into Windows and when your at the desktop insert the XP CD in the Rom. Exit out the XP wizard when it starts, then click on Start>>Run and type SFC /SCANNOW then OK. This will replace any files missing and correct any corrupted files.

Note the space between the SFC and /

if your operating system was pre installed(ie/no windows cd) you will not be prompted to insert the windows cdrom.

but you should have some form of restore floppy etc??
