rundll32.exe corruption (win98, NOT 98SE)

Ok, everytime I try to open a folder, or indeed any part of my control panell, I get the following error message.
"The file RUNDLL32.EXE is courrupt. Re-install the file and try again"

I don't have a hard copy of win98 as my machine came with it pre-installed, and the recovery disks won't let me search them.

I've tried various registry fixing programs with no success.
I also tried on advice typing in "scanreg.exe /fix" at the dos prompt.
I've also tried START>RUN> scf, but that didn't work either.
I've scanned for virus' and spyware etc, but nothing was found.
Is there a site anywhere where I can simply download a clean version of the corrupt file and replace the old one?

I really son't wanna use the recovery disks as it will take weeks to re-install / re-configure everything.

Can anyone please help? I don't wanna have to pay an engineer ?49 to fix it, but its rapidly looking like that is the only option.

I posted this problem on many forums, and always found myself lost in copious amounts of techno babble. A geek I am not.

However, your suggestions allowed me to fix my problem in less than 30 minutes.

Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou....
