Instead of copying my CD's I'm making coasters.
My o/s is Windows 98,with 512 megabytes of ram.
My CD-RW is a Freecom model and bundled with it was Roxio's Easy CD Creator 5,but it is the basic edition.I've updated the drivers. It's no use trying to contact Roxio's support because there isn't any, this is due to it being the basic edition.I have been to the users forum but without success.
This is the error message I get - Fatal exception 0028:C004DFEC in vxd vcache (01)+00000a14.
Thinking this may be a buffer underrun/cache problem, I've tried closing down all other systems running in the background, but still no success.
Has anyone any idea what I am doing wrong?

Have you just added any RAM?

i have the basic edition and when i had made enough coasters i put the write speed down to either 2 or 4, never made any coasters since.

spikeychris:No I haven't added any ram.

Brynit: I'm just trying to copy a basic music cd, using the Roxio cd copier application.

Magik:How do you alter the write speed?

Andy: Thanks I'll take a look.

Thanks to all of you guys for taking the time to help.

Did you install this drive yourself if so have you connected it up correctly.
It should be set as slave on the same ribbon as your CD ROM

One reason for this behaviour can be if one or more of the RAM chips in your computer are faulty or damaged.

You could also consider disabling write behind caching:

1. Click Start> Settings> Control Panel> System> Performance> File System> Troubleshooting.

2. Then check off Disable write-behind caching for all drives.

3. Click on Ok then Close then select Restart the computer.

Have you fixed/changed the size/settings of your swap file (virtual memory) recently?
