Routers - general questions on using

  Billawa 12:12 06 Dec 2009

I have just installed a wired router successfully. I have some general questions on its use:-

1. If the router is turned off does it still retain all the login information or has it to be set up again from scratch when powered up again?

2. Can I swap the ethernet cable while the router is turned on - as you can do with USB peripherals?

3. In swapping the Ethernet cable does this affect the settings or function of the router? I just want to use a shorter cable to tidy things up!

thanks in advance for any replies.

1. Settings will be retained.

2. Yes, you can plug/unplug ethernet cables without having to power off.

3. Swapping cables won't make any difference - just be sure not to replace a normal "straight-wired" cable with a "crosover" cable (which is used when connecting two computers together "Network Adapter to Network Adapter").

Thanks for the info. I will check the cable before using it!!
