Router settings in plain language please?

  Diemmess 18:01 04 Feb 2009

I have been negotiating with AOL to deliver or I leave!
I use a perfectly serviceable ADD_ON Gainward router but perhaps wisely AOL, don't support that router since they didn't sell it to me!

During promising improvements in download speed I went a shade too far and had to reset the whole router.

I am one of those who make things difficult for myself and though I am back online, the WEP or WAP? security settings escape me.

There are boxes covering every character in the English language known but meean little to me.

What section do I look for in the router setup to put a 10 character password into the thing?

decimal numbers 0 to 9 and hexi letters 'a' through to 'h'.

You could pick a 5 letter word like mmess and it would change it in to code for you. Or you could select a9b356892d or any combination as code.

save it and when you connect a computer input the code of 10 digits.

Thank you both.
You've provided plenty to chew over.

I'll just let this run overnight, and read-up what I have now.

The magic WAP chrs don't appear for me on any screen in setup, hence this thread.

a to f
not a to h

So you have 0-9 and a to f and use any combination of those

Patience, logic and your help fixed it.
