Router password and username stops functioning

  numskull 12:11 19 Mar 2007

Not sure if it is CCleaner doing it or not.
If I try to open the page it asks me for my username and password but just keeps asking, then after 3 attempt states "Authorization Failure"
I can reset it using a telnet session but in IE7 this is a pain.
Can anyone tell me how to prevent this happening?

Is this a Speedtouch router? There is a bug with the newer firmware and IE7 but there is a workaround...besides using Firefox that is.

If it is a Speedtouch, these are the instructions from their technical support:

There an issue with security credentials thru IE7.

To be able to connect to your modem web-interface using IE7, you have to disable digest authentication.

Telnet Required:

2)Run, and then type: cmd

3)In Dos prompt type: telnet

4)Enter your eventual security credentials

5)Enter following commands:

: system config digestauth=disabled

: saveall

: exit

: exit

It worked for me.

Yes, it is a speedtouch 536. I can reset with a telnet session as described above and I can access a web interface. Works for a while then stops allowing access that is why I was wondering if CCleaner was affecting it?

If you reboot the router you have to do the workaround again. Are you rebooting the router?

Yes, reboot router then do "user flush" then add user as "super user" then above instructions and all is well for a while but then for some reason it stops allowing access so have to go through the whole process again.
