My router (Netgear DG634G wireless ADSL 2)takes between 5 - 10 mins to connect to the net after powering up.
Is this just something that is particular to routers or would i benefit from upgrading the firmware.
Not one to upgrade things unnecessarily if i don't need to as once connected everything else works fine.
I'm using Vista.

The normal connect time should be around 2 - 5 mins for the router to connect to your ISP

servers

Windows Vista contains both the familiar IPv4 stack and the new IPv6 stack.

IPv6, when it's rolled out across the Internet over the next few years, will bring an end to

the problem of running out of IP addresses and improve other aspects of TCP/IP

operation.

However you do not need IPv6 at present time disable IPv6 in the Windows Vista system.

will help your connect time

Download the pdf file will tell you how to disable IPv6 in Vista

Thanks for the useful info.
Nice to know that they do take a little while to connect.
I'll follow your advice and see if it improves things.

if yours takes a little while, my router D-link G624T from cold start to online in 27 seconds.
