Router connected to Sky Router

I have a Netgear router (192.168.1.1) connected to a Sky Router (192.168.0.1) via the DSL Ethernet port. On the Netgear router I have the Internet IP Address set manually to 192.168.0.2.

All my devices go through the Netgear router first, which then connects to the Sky Router for Internet.

I have the DNS server setting set to 192.168.0.1 and leave the secondary settings blank. Is this the correct setup and does this setup enable my Internet connections to use the DNS settings on the Sky Router?

Any advise please.

If everything is working then your setup is fine. It's only the Sky router that can do name-resolution lookups.

At the start of your post you said that the two routers were on different subnets which will never work. The second sentence of that paragraph seems to indicate that you changed the Netgear's private IP address, and if that's what you did, then that's good.

Yes, second router (Netgear) is 192.168.1.1 changed by myself and both are on the same subnet. Would it better to leave the DNS pointing to the SKY router or should I put the SKY DNS settings into the Netgear router?

I do that so I can use the 5Ghz Wireless band to avoid contention with neighbours. My Sky router does not support 5Ghz and, in any case, is in another room and wouldn't be very good.

Woody, your current setup is fine - it doesn't need any adjustments.

Thanks for that. Problem solved :-)
