Router backup

I am presently using a TalkTalk Echolife router HG520b and I wonder how much of the huge amount of data given on its website I should keep a note of in case it has to be replaced one day.
Could someone advise the best way to "backup" this piece of equipment.

there is usually a back up and restore option.

Thanks Halmer, I had forgotten about that.
However, if I were ever to replace this router with one of different manufacture, that file would be useless presumably? So, in general, can you advise which are the essential bits of data which I should currently keep a note of?
