Restoring To Factory Settings Without Losing Data

Is it possible to do the above and if so how????

All depends on what make the PC and recovery disc is. Some are a full XP disc. So more info is needed.

I've got an Advent and the recovery disc that I got with it enables me to either do a completely new recovery back to factory settings or a "non-destructive recovery" which leaves all my programmes etc intact.

All the PC's that I have seen that offer a way to restore factory settings, EG by pressing F11 or something,can give you a choice. But if you take it back to factory settings that is what you get IE: nothing else. However if you have a full OS disc that you can use, you should be able to keep your data as christmascracker says, or there may be a choice, last good configuration,last restore point or factory settings which is where you lose your data.
