Restore My Documents to Default location

  Chronos the 2nd 17:59 30 Mar 2013

I have been helping a guy out with his build via email and I gave him instructions how to move the My Folders off the SSD to the 1TB HDD.

I normally create folders on the destination drive and then move the originals. Which I told him to do except he did not bother with the My Documents folder he just copied it to his 1TB HDD, so in effect the whole of the 1TB drive is now My Documents but without a folder called as such.

It is simple enough to restore to a default location provided there is a folder to restore but I have not got a clue what to do in this situation.

This is a new one to me. Thinking along the lines of creating a new partition on the drive. Check how much My Docs is using and leave enough space for the Docs folder/ partition. Then restore the location?

There is nothing to indicate that the drive is now totally My Documents so I am not sure that your suggestion would be effective.

I might suggest a repair install or just leave as it is. My instructions were exact and included a link but he decided to go his own way.

I had to give up helping him today as I was struck down with a medical problem. Tomorrow I will see what if anything he has done since this morning. Should be interesting.

Perhaps he has re-named the 1TB drive/partition to My Documents, rather than copying the my documents folder across? Can you rename it to something else? A right-click of the my documents icon > properties > location tab might help to re-locate to default.
