i reformatted a hard drive from fat32 to ntfs can i now restore a backup that was made of the fat32 drive onto the reformatted ntfs drive?

I would think that the system would cope with this. What have you got to lose? the drive is empty and the back up will not be harmed even if the restore fails. My only thought is that if this is a drive image with mbr and fat records then they will not be compatable, if it just data records it should be ok.

Well Ntfs will be able to read the Fat32 backup. Did you use Windows Backup or Acronis or what?

As windows Backup been reinstalled after your Format? as you have to use the Program to reinstall, Plus all the Programs have to be on the computer tp be able to restore to the correct folders. You need to buy Acronis True Image for a proper backup. One that Works
