i have a Gigabyte K8T800 Mobo,Athlon 63 3000+,512mb,120Gb ATA.Each time I switch on the post reaches memory test OK then restarts before reading the IDE drives. It then posts normally.Just a minor annoyance but I'd like to know why if any of you good folk out there can help.

I would look in the startup tab of msconfig for something trying to start. I remove the tick from the left hand box for everything except my virus checker and firewall. Also anything you want to start up on boot up. The least ticked the quicker it will start. On reboot put a tick in the box on the left hand side and you will not be told of your actions again.

Is there a setting in the BIOS which is configured for "fast boot", so that it is trying to boot before the hard drive has got up to its operating speed?

There isn't a fast boot setting in the bios but I think you've hit the nail on the head as the Hard drive is a 5400 rpm & it will occasionally post 1st time. Thanks for your input gents
