Reserved system space

I think I asked this before but wasn't clear on the answer.

In disckeeper lite, it says my D HD has 17gb of 'reserved system space'. I'd sure like it back seeing as C drive has none.

What gives?

I believe that it is the space allocated for System Restore points. You can reduce this if you right click My Computer, Properties, System Restore tab, Settings button and move the slider to the left.

I moved it all the way to the left for this drive but it's still taking up 17gb that I need back. I read somewhere that its not really a 250gb drive but I find it hard to believe 17gb is wasted.
Thanks

It's the Master File Table (MFT). click here The space is still usable IF you need it but Windows just Reserves the space first.

Alright...thanks...now I understand and don't have to do anything to get it back.
Even the author of the article seemed confused mentioning the 'chicken and the egg' problem.
