Reported Memory not same as Installed

Hi All,

Lavalys's Everest 220 system analysis program reports that I've got two 512 MB sticks of PC2100 DDR RAM fitted in an HP a310UK computer running WinXP SP2.

However, when the computer starts up the BIOS counts and checks two sticks of 1GB, which is what I think is in there. How can I tell for sure and what is the memory limit for this computer?

Crucial tool is very accurate, and will tell you what's in your system.

Thanks dan. and crosstrainer, your links have settled it. The BIOS must count the same memory twice during start up, it certainly indicates that there is 2GB. It's irritating that it will now be necessary to buy 2GB since there are only two slots and I don't want to mix memory types. Ah well. Thinking on it, it's no wonder my photo editor keeps reporting low memory levels when I try to do some intensive operation.

Thanks again.

Check your virtual memory settings. If they are low, increasing it may help with your photo editing program.

Though extra ram is always the better alternative.
