Replacing IDE HDD with SATA?

got a sick HP PC from friend. It seems to need a new HDD. Went to site where I have bought some PC spares up to now. The site doesn't list any IDE HDD's, so was wondering if I can just pop in a SATA drive in place of old IDE drive without any complications.
Thanks
