Replacing floppy drive with card reader + USB port

I am thinking about getting this click here to replace my 3.5” floppy drive as I currently have an external card reader and don’t use floppy disks anymore.

I have an eMachine 3220 that has 2 USB ports at the front and a bank of USB ports at the rear [via a card connection] and have recently fitted a Asus P4S800-MX SE m/board click here

Can you experts please [a] check whether I have a spare USB ‘connector’ on my M/board – or will I have to lose the front USBs and [b] do I have to alter the BIOS so that the hard drive is no longer looked for/found – or will the fact that this is disconnected mean that this is auto-removed [I don’t want the bios to hang!].

Thanks – this is new to me ;o) I’ve only ever added hard drives and RAM before! Hope I’ve given you enough info.

Thanks,

Paul

2 x USB 2.0 connector support additional 4 USB 2.0 ports from click here

check your manual for usb header connection (looks like bottom left on picture of board)

What bout the Bios? Does the removal of the floppy drive have to be reflected in the removal of this from the BIOS/POST?

Thanks,

Paul

In the BIOS set the floppy drive to None.

looks like a fairly simple job then.

Ticked as resolved.
