Replacing Desktop Hard drive with Laptop Hard driv

  tigerb 11:55 27 Feb 2005

My 20 gb hard drive with win 98 as died a death, I have a Toshiba 40 gb laptop hard drive with win 2000 on it which does work, having fitted an adapter and then plugged it in place of the duff one when turning the PC on it stops when trying to recognise the hard drive and hangs.
In the bios I have changed it to auto detect but again does not recognise the hard drive, am I missing something fundamental? any help greatly appreciated.

I Am under the impression that laptop HDD's are not the same as those made for desktop PC's.

I may well be wrong, but i would not even try what you have tried, as i would not actually expect it to work.

Sorry if not much help.
