Replacing CD drive... just pull it out?

  livewire 13:59 12 Aug 2008

Hi there,

Am about to replace my laptops CD drive and dont want to break anything...

Theres one screw on the back of the laptop for the drive.. is it as simple as unscrew that and then pull out the drive and slot the new one in?

Or is there some other steps I might be missing...

any tips would be most welcome!! :) thanks!

From your one-screw description, I would guess yours is a Dell.

On some Laptops you have to take the Laptop apart to get it out. I have a Medion the Drive is held in by about three screws after dissembled

has one screw in the battery compartment.

Undo this and the drive just drops out.:-)

Hi, I think livewire's might be a Dell (only one screw), but, just for you ... LoL

Sorry I havnt been able to reply sooner with an answer!

Its an Evesham laptop.. with the shell made by Mitac.

It looks the most like the Dell link.

I'm going to be doing it soon after dinner... optical drive has now arrived via Dabs :O :)

Thanks for the links! :)

The Medion I am talking about is made by Mitac, so you may have the same problem as me.

thanks but mine is a different Model plus it comes apart different. first bit that as to be removed on mine is a strip just under the screen with switch buttons on it, then you can get to keyboard screws but monitor as also got to be removed plus lots more

Hi again - trouble is, there are so many different types, even of the same make! Still, you have obviously been able to manage your own - Grreat.

I could have shown a whole long list, but just chose a few I thought were the most likely ones.
