Replace normal.dotx in Word 2007

I want to replace the default template in Word 2007 with one of my own design. In previous versions this was easily achievable by renaming normal.dot and naming my own template to normal.dot and then it would open every time I started Word. Word 2007 does not seem to allow this, every time I rename normal.dotx and rename my own template, it reverts to a blank normal.dotx.

Any ideas please.

Thanks for the link. I have already created my own template, what I need to know is how to get Word 2007 to open it as the default document when I start up the program.
