renaming files through DOS?!!

Need some help guys!
I have downloaded the film Blue Crush via Kazaa in a .avi format..but can I get it to play..nooooo!
Does nyone know the commad to use in DOS to rename it to MPG?
Also will i be able to put it on CD and play it in CD ROM drive?

You'll have to convert it to mpeg, devilsprofessor, renaming it wont change it to mpeg. You don't have to go to DOS to rename files, just right click it and choose rename.

Oh by the way, your first priorty, if you download from Kazaa, should be a full up to date virus scan.

maybe i didn;t explain that one clearly, i don't want t change the name i want to change the format from avi to mpg. If anyone can recomend a converter step on down preferably one that is free.

ok cool, so can i then when al s encoded to mpg put tonto a cd n play thru my cd rom drive using xing mpg player?

have you tried installing the divX codec,needed for many .avi files?

click here once installed the avi should play in WMP.
