Renaming files dilemma - bizarre goings on.

I have Windows XP.

I am currently getting an annoying message box come up when I attempt to rename a file:

'If you rename a file extension, the file may become unusable.
Are you sure you want to change it?'

And there are two options, 'yes' and 'no'.

When I click yes, the file icon changes into the generic xp thumbnail and becomes, as the box suggests, completely unusable!!

Someone please help, I'd be really grateful...

Make sure you are keeping the same extension when you rename the file ... ie .jpeg or .txt or .doc or whatever.

Make sure you actually type the .extension to the new name.

Like monalisa.jpg not just monalisa .....

Technotiger,

Vast, wobbling THANKS for your splendid and simple solution to my file re-naming problem.

I suppose I should have known about this, but I didn't!

Subsequently, I feel a bit foolish now...

But the main thing is the problem is solved.

Well done and thanks again, Technotiger.
