removing unwanted desktop icons and programs

  erniemilk 09:34 04 May 2003

While browsing with xp, adverts for adult sites came up, it took a few attempts to close it as others followed. Eventually all were closed but now every time I turn on my pc their icon is on my desktop. I have sent it to recycle and emptied it but it re appears when I re start. Also when I go to start it shows I have a new program but I am also unable to delete this. If I go to control panel to try and delete it, it is not on the list of programs, any ideas?

Before doing as VoG™ very sensibly suggests, can you do a system restore to before this happened?

Another program that may be of use is SpywareBlaster click here which stops these nasty things getting into your machine in the first place.
