removing a template

I have a packard bell with XP.
I composed a short letter using word and repeated it several times on the page using the clipboard. Now whenever I open word I seem to get the same letter as a default template. If I go to file and open a new document I get the same for as many documents as I care to open. How do I get rid of this I have tried the help but I seem unable to get an answer to my particular query. This may seem easy to some but I am fairly new to PCs and I am getting desperate.

I think you've accidentally saved this as the default document template.

Exit Word.

Do a search for the file NORMAL.DOT and rename it to NORMAL.OLD

(You will need to enable search for hidden files and folders to locate this file.)

Start Word.
