removing system tray icons

  MICKY BOY 10:00 03 Sep 2006

Hi All,

Have just had to re-install windows XP on my computer after a fatal crash.
After installing all the software again I have ended up with a lot of icons in my system tray. Most of which I do not need.

Can anybody advice the best and safest way to reduce to just the most basic icons that I need.
Is their a software that I can use? I have system mechanic 6 but cannot see how to use it for this purpose.

Thanks VoG™ and Halmer Have tried msconfig but every time I restart windows all the icons reappear although I clicked apply. I even un-ticked all start up boxes yet they all reappear.

Any other subjections.

Why don't you try this great little program from click here it's free but I have the plus version which lets you have access to a huge file data base that gives you all the information on any given file and advises you accordingly.

Great program!
